Violence once again is threatening the ongoing Bayelsa Governorship
election rerun. Despite the assurances by security agencies and appeals
by stakeholders for peace incidents of ballot snatching has been
recorded in certain polling units.
Ahead of the poll, there was a bomb attack on the house of the Speaker
on Thursday and now several reports of violence at some polling units as
well as sporadic shooting where two people were reportedly hit by stray
bullets have been recorded in the rerun taking place today.
The Peoples Democratic Party are accusing thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress of disrupting election.
Following the cancellation of the election in Southern Ijaw Local
Government Area of the state as result of widespread violence the
supplementary election had become necessary . More than a month later,
the same problems are threatening the conclusion of the election.
