Taiwan Poised To Elect First Woman President

Taiwan’s electorate took to polling stations across the country to cast their votes in a presidential election that could see the island state appoint its first female leader. Tsai Ing-wen, leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is looking to oust the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party, who is faced by Eric Chu.
Tsai, who is running for a second time after being defeated in 2012 by the incumbent, Ma Ying-jeou, is leading the race by a large majority, according to most polls.
Should the 59 year-old be named as the winner Saturday, it will not only be a boost to women in politics, but also for Taiwan's pro-independence camp.
