Love Never Existed by Opaleye Akintunde

LOVE NEVER EXISTED
___Love is a word with a very simple definition but with a lot of misconception. Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines love as a strong feeling of deep affection for someone you are sexually attracted to. Most of the definitions of love found in textbooks or dictionaries to be precise are not absolutely correct because the meanings tend to illustrate the surface practical act of love neglecting the depth source of love which is the Spirit of love. So based on my understanding of love, I may define as having a pure heart with everything which has feelings without any form of hatred in the mind.

___Some do say Love is for the “mature minds” but come to think of it, it is practically wrong based on the fact that children seem to have s “skeleton spirit of love inside them” yet to be fleshed up. But it is miserable the way the spirit of love tends to have a stunted growth as they grow. Looking at it practically, a child who is being offended will surely reconcile not long after or the next time of meeting which shows the traces of love living in the little child. But looking at the case of the same child in the future when he/she is fully grown, when offended, the bitterness will never leave his/her heart easily. This shows that the spirit of love has vanished.

___Some persons like the soldiers, terrorists and suicide bombers may also claim to perform their actions in love by claiming that they kill for love, but the question is “can there be any form of love in making people’s eyes red and wet, making the homeless totally hopeless, and making the hopeless homeless?.” The soldiers may say they fight because of the love they have for their country but what is the essence of settling disputes through the use of guns and other weapons of mass destruction which will not even settle the dispute but to increase the rate of hatred in the hearts of the countries concerned. Are bombs invented to kill dreams (people) or blast-off huge rocks?. All these actions can never build the spirit of love in us but to kill it the more.

___After all, some may say they love a particular person or they love some people in particular, but is that ever possible?. Is it possible to pour a clean water into a dirty cup and still have clean water?, that is never possible. So it can never be possible to love someone with your heart and still hate someone with that same heart. Some do say they hate no one . But have you ever seen a mouth that has never cursed, a mouth that blessed throughout its existence?.

___Looking at it critically love is a characteristic rarely possessed but commonly bragged about. The spirit is yet to be built, the skeleton is yet to be flashed, but it’s a pity there are no signs of that, but I hope one day love will truly exist.
