The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Saturday qualified for 2014 World Cup
scheduled to take place in Brazil with an emphatic 2-0 victory over
Ethiopia.
The current African champions which started the match as favourite
did not waste time to make their intentions known as Victor Moses
converted a 12th minute penalty to put the Super Eagles on a pole
position.
Though the Walya of Ethiopia made serious efforts to equalize, but
the defensive wall of Omerua and Obagbona kept them in check.
With less than ten minutes to end the match, Nigeria sealed the
victory when Obinna Nsofor struck a 22-yard free kick beyond the reach
of Ethiopian goalkeeper.
With the victory, Nigeria has become the first African nation to
qualify for 2014 World Cup in Brazil. They have joins the likes of
Germany, Italy, England, Japan, USA, Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Holland
etc to book a slot in the biggest soccer mundial next year.
Also, Super Eagles' coach Stephen Keshi has become the first African
coach to qualify two countries for World Cup. He tutored the Hawks of
Togo when the qualified for 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Significantly, they qualifies on a 4-1 goal aggregate having defeated the Ethiopians 2-1 in Addis Ababa last month.
